Some attorneys become business lawyers by default, when they go to work for large law firms that serve business clients. Melissa Orme is an intentional business lawyer. Melissa spent years developing her business and finance expertise, first earning her CPA designation and then as an MBA. She has held positions as a senior executive both domestically and internationally. Including serving a Fortune 50 corporation as Senior Director of International Finance, based in Sydney, Australia and then followed by a role as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a major US based consumer goods manufacturing company, all before graduating with honors from a top 20 law school. Melissa concentrates her practice on transactional law to leverage her extensive experience and finance expertise for the benefit of her clients.
Melissa observes that most business people understand their industry and business operations, but may not be fully aware of the legal nuances that can impact their business. At the same time, many business attorneys are well-versed in the law, but are unfamiliar with business operations, making them less effective advocates. Melissa enjoys working to bridge that gap for her clients, offering legal expertise from a firm foundation of business experience. She says of her chosen practice areas, “I really enjoy helping my clients navigate their business, tax, real estate, financing and estate planning issues. I feel good knowing that my clients are free to focus all their energy on business, confident that the legal details are well in hand."
When not practicing law, Melissa enjoys traveling, golfing, gardening, and spending time with her family. She is an avid reader and enjoys discovering the work of local authors.
